Hunter’s
On a cold winter night, a devastating fire ravaged the beloved Hunter’s grocery store on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. For decades, Hunter’s had been more than just a store; it was the heartbeat of downtown Wolfeboro, a place where locals and visitors alike gathered, exchanged smiles, shared stories, and built memories. In the face of this tragedy, owner Dan Craffey didn’t lose hope. Even before the ashes had settled, he made a promise to the community: Hunter’s would rise again.
And rise it did.
In a collaborative partnership with the architectural team at Harriman, we embarked on a journey to not just rebuild, but reimagine Hunter’s. Our purpose was clear: to create an experiential design and brand identity that would reflect the spirit and resilience of the community it serves. Drawing inspiration from the docks of Wolfeboro Bay, the mountain range views, the lettering of classic boats, and the vibrant downtown art scene, we crafted a brand that is warm, classic, and natural. It speaks to the hospitality of Hunter’s customer-centered staff and the loyalty of its caring customers.
Fast forward eighteen months, and Hunter’s has reopened its doors, welcoming the community back with open arms. Customers have been raving:
‘To say I was impressed is an understatement.’
’Wowza! How beautiful!’
’Simply amazing.’
’Like a Phoenix rising.’
’Hunter’s is back and better than ever!!!’
This project wasn’t just about rebuilding a store. It was about restoring the heart of ‘the oldest resort town in America.’
